Currently reading…

Alright, so I’m horrible updating. But.. I am reading.

Currently I’m reading Replica by Lauren Oliver and loving it.

I am also in the mood for a contemporary read but haven’t picked one out yet. Any ideas?

Hopefully I’ll have a review up this weekend! I’m incredibly behind on my Goodreads goal. So time to get cracking.

REVIEW: Audiobook – Talking as Fast as I Can

Finally! My first review of the year is going up!

Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham

When I first heard that Lauren Graham was coming out with a book about Gilmore Girls, I was ecstatic. She’s one of my favorite actors that was on that show.  I knew then that I had to read it. Or well, listen to it. So I did.

Listening to Lauren Graham read her own book was incredible. She was funny, witty, and did an all around fantastic job. This lead me to give the audiobook a 5/5 star rating on Goodreads.

Talking as Fast as I Can was inspiring. She begins with her story on how she became an actor. She talked about the struggles and hardships she faced to get to where she is. She went over where she grew up, her education, the history of her acting career (including school plays), her first jobs, men she dated, and how she once tried to go vegan. She talks about ridiculous diets that don’t work. But somehow, she manages to sound down to earth and humorous, while yet being serious and incredibly inspiring.

However, the audiobook/book isn’t just about herself. She talks about the cast of Gilmore Girls and what it was like meeting them. As well as, what it was like working with them. At some point in the audiobook, when she gets to talking about the revival, she brings up Edward Hermann and his passing. She talks about the effect it had on the cast and how it was difficult filming the parts that were about him.

There is plenty more I could share, but I feel that would give away too much of what the book/audiobook contains. So for now, I leave you with this, I recommend this audiobook/book to fans of the Gilmore Girls show. It’s definitely worth a read/listen.

That’s all for now. Happy reading!

A small update…

It’s been 22 days since I posted. For that, I apologize. Some things came up. My grandfather landed in the ICU at the hospital. I ended up leaving a job that was doing a horrible number on my mental health. But I did, however, finish one audiobook. I know it’s not the same as reading, and I don’t usually listen to audiobooks. But it was amazing. I’ll be posting a review on that sometime this week.

Part of the reason I haven’t posted, besides what’s listed above, is due to a massive reading slump. I thought I was out of it, but apparently not. I ended up choosing several different books, before I found one that kept my attention.

So with this rocky start, I thank you for stopping by.

I’ll post soon!

Welcome and Happy New Year!

Hello and welcome to Bookish Brain Reads!

Some of you may already be familiar with the name, others may be new readers. If so, thank you!

For those old followers, you may have noticed that my website looks pretty empty. That’s because I didn’t keep up with blogging in 2017. I hit a massive reading slump and had a job that didn’t allow for much time to read. I did finally get a different job and am slowly getting back into reading.

Now for those new readers! Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoy your visit!

I’m sure you’re all wondering what exactly this blog is about (new followers). Bookish Brain is mainly about books. However, I’ve decided that it’s not going to be 100% focused on books. I’m branching out to gain a better following, and because, I want to find others that share my love for certain TV shows (Gilmore Girls, Doctor Who, Etc) and movies (Harry Potter!!) I’m also going to share a ton of book related content. That can be anything from book themed jewelry, to movies based off of books, and so forth. I’m not sure what my posting schedule is going to be quite yet. So hang in there, as things take off.

I bet you’re wondering who exactly is behind Bookish Brain. Well, that’s me, Des. Yeah, it’s a nick name. I’m in my mid-20s and I absolutely love to read YA, time travel, and classics. I haven’t read much of the the classics or time travel genres, but we’re gonna work on that in 2018. I’ll post a more extensive about me later. But for now, welcome to Bookish Brain.

Happy New Year, Happy Reading!
