Do Me a Favor by Cathy Yardley
I’ve loved Cathy Yardley’s books since reading the Ponto Beach Reunion series. She’s one of my favorite independent authors, and she delivered another winner with her newest book, Do Me a Favor.
Summary of Do Me a Favor (No Spoilers)
Willa just inherited her great aunt’s house on Marre Island, and with nothing left for her in the Bay Area, she heads to the tiny community off of Puget Sound to figure out her next steps. While she still mourns her husband’s death, Willa has bills to pay and a career to start over. She has a chance to return to her cookbook ghostwriting gig, if she can make her client’s sexy chef influencer vibe stand out on the page.
Willa is overwhelmed by starting over, and then she meets Hudson, a Marre Island local whose rumbling voice and flirtatious eyes nearly knock her off her feet. Hudson feels the attraction too, but he must wrestle with his own past and insecurities, including feeling like his island handyman job is not just unfulfilling but unworthy of Willa.
Do Willa and Hudson overcome their personal challenges and find true love? Do me a favor, and read the book to find out.
What I Enjoyed About Do Me a Favor
Do Me a Favor is a classic Cathy Yardley rom-com, bringing all my favorites:
- Great MCs: Willa is independent and stubborn while Hudson is kind and charming. I loved that they’re both in their forties and have experienced a lot of life already. They brought maturity to their relationship, especially in the beginning.
- Humor: Ms. Yardley knows how to lighten the mood, particularly with a few animals. Noodle the escape artist dog is endearing while the goats on Hudson’s family farm are funny and a little terrifying. Beyond the animals, there are comedic scenes that steal the show in this book, particularly at the barbecue. I’d tell you more, but I can’t spoil it.
- Tension and Resolution: Again, no spoilers, but let’s say that the romantic tension between Willa and Hudson was spicy but tender, and their resolution wasn’t a sickly sweet stereotypical ending.
My Final Thoughts About Do Me a Favor
Do Me a Favor is a fast-paced romantic comedy with great characters and a solid plot. It’s a story about independence and letting people help you. And, it’s a story about what to do when you fall in love. Read it, and I think you’ll fall in love, too.
